On attempting haunted.

Tue Dec 27, 2005, 2:03 PM
"Nature is a haunted house--But art is a house that tries to be haunted." --Emily Dickinson

I posted something! Whee, I’m special. And I’m using the journal--I’m just good this week (I may use this journal simply to use all these quotes I have about writing. Who, me? Silly? Of course not! Don’t be ridiculous [oh, well, -pout- My quote doesn't fit. I hate these silly short subject lines. I have the same problem on lj. I'll just have to put it above]).

Yeah. I have other stuff to post too when I get time. I haven’t posted in so long that I had to spend thirty seconds reading all the links on the main page to figure out which one I should click… now the journal thing I got lost a few times (I’ve never used it, after all).

I’ve recently decided a few different things about writing, and art in general, but mainly writing:
One: ) Writing for satisfaction produces far better work than attempting to write masterfully.
Two: ) One cannot produce good work if all one does is write about things that are safe to write about. To avoid writing about what one has learned for fear of what other’s will learn about oneself is ridiculous—the only good writing is the writing that takes risks.
Three: ) Emotions must be kept in-check when writing non-lyrical pieces. Subjectivity has the ability to make wisdom naïve (oooh, that line is pretty. I bet I read it somewhere. -pout-).
Four: ) To look at one’s writing as if it were a child is a mistake. Fondness towards the production of one’s toil is expected, but love of such a piece disallows improvement (though this is true in all things, and thus it follows that it would also apply to writing).
Five: ) Subtlety in fiction is necessary. One cannot go about rambling one’s points as though it were an essay—evidence must be used to prove a point through the use of literary devices. To use these devices is to compliment one’s readers, for one thus assumes that the reader is witty enough to pick up on one’s point without the idea having been stated blatantly.
And, of course, the sixth I always knew: Don’t be so damn stubborn, self!

Therefore, I’m trying to become more mature in my tone and less silly, or more silly with serious undertones. Of course, I haven’t actually written anything with this in mind (though I think some of it I’ve done a little subconsciously). I’m going to have to go do that next idea I get.

Though I'll have to actually find time to apply these first. o.O

(PS: Do tell me if you guys got updated every time I edited this thing... that way I remember to edit obsessively -before- I hit enter).

Now, you have to post more deviations, because I said so :P! And because I promise I'm going to put up more things than the 3 I have up. And because I need everyone to help fuel my commenting addiction. No, it's not just on the forums . . . :embarrassed:

Aaah, yes. I used to do the artsy stuff. Before... the HIGH SCHOOL MONSTER OF DOOOOOOM.

-grins-

I probably won't get many up... I'm more of a writer than an artist, anyway, so perhaps I'll post some poetry, if I can find time to comment on everyone else's work first. I can do pretty things in photoshop, if you give me pictures that already are anatomically correct, but I'm not much good with a pen and paper, and don't have the time to improve. Thus, I must settle with painting with words. Alas.

:-p Comment addict!

Anyway, I shall check out your stuff... I'm not much for commenting, since I'm not much of an artist, but I'm good at identifying when I like something and when I don't. ^-^

Thanks for the devwatch, even though it took me ages to respond to it (and you probably forgot me by now! ^-^ No worries, I've been gone for forever).

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire deviant life, that there's something wrong with the story. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

You take the blue pill, the story ends. Your browser closes and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I offer only the truth, nothing more.

Take: The Red Pill
Take: The Blue Pill

Fella Point Right spyed, nobody has ever done this before.
Ninja Point Right I know. That's why it's going to work.

Do not try and bend the spoon ...
